Two days Hike from Mendoza to Potrero Escondido Lake

Potrero Escondido Lake is located at 3700 meters above sea level, in the Central Mountain Range, in one of the most popular ravines in Mendoza: Matienzo Ravine, in the town of Las Cuevas. This ravine offers a surprising landscape, surrounded by large mounts and the Cuevas River.

The itinerary consists of two days. It starts in the city of Mendoza and we cover 22 km in the round trip. The slope that separates us from the lake is 600 meters.

Day 1: Pick up at 9:00 a.m. We will move towards the town of Las Cuevas, where we will begin the trekking to the base camp, we will spend the night at 3200 masl.

Day 2: Trekking to the Potrero Escondido Lake. Return to the camp, breaking camp, transfer to the city of Mendoza. End of services.

What to Expect from the Full Board?

This includes: breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner for the 3 days walk, except for the first day which starts with the on-the-go lunch. The meals are prepared according to the logistics and activity.

Initially, some meals can be:

  • Risotto with bacon
  • Noodles with meat sauce
  • Sandwich with homemade bread, cold cuts, tomato and avocado.
  • Rice with sautéed vegetables
  • Fajitas
  • Fresh fruit, nuts, cereal bars, oatmeal cookies, etc.

What do I do if I lack equipment?

We can recommend you an equipment rental, and we will accompany you in the process of choosing the right one for the activity.

How will we carry the loads?

The loads will be carried by the participants. As it is a 2 day trip, backpacks should not weigh more than 15 kg, and should only be carried for 7 km to base camp.

Is previous experience required?

Between October and April (summer season), it is a trekking of low technical difficulty and the route is easier than in the winter season. However, it is necessary to do regular exercise in order to do this activity.
