Explore Vallecitos and the Cordón del Plata, a stunning mountain region just two hours from Mendoza. With peaks reaching over 6,000 meters, this day hike takes you deep into the Andes—no camping or previous mountain experience required.
Once a ski resort, now a protected natural area, the Cordón del Plata offers a wide range of hikes, from gentle valley walks to routes that touch the basecamps of major Andean expeditions. You’ll choose your pace: whether it’s a more relaxed route through high-altitude camps, or the iconic “Cadenita” hike, which links three peaks in a scenic and physically rewarding challenge.
We’ll pick you up at your hotel and take care of everything. You’ll hike light, enjoy a delicious homemade lunch with panoramic views, and spend the day with a local mountain guide who brings the landscape to life.
A genuine Andes experience, all in one day. Quiet, powerful, and unforgettable.

OUR RECOMMENDATION
If you’re looking to spend a full day in the Andes, surrounded by raw nature and guided by local experts, this experience is for you. You don’t need to be a mountaineer, but good physical condition is essential — we’ll be hiking at altitude for several hours.
Suggested routes:
- High-altitude camps: A more relaxed pace, perfect if you want to enjoy the scenery without too much strain. We hike through wide valleys and gentle ravines to reach the same spots where climbers set up camp before tackling big expeditions.
- La Cadenita: A more demanding circuit designed for those seeking a physical challenge. We hike across three connected peaks with constant elevation gain. It’s intense — and incredibly rewarding.

What fitness level do I need?
This is a moderate to demanding hike, depending on the route you choose. We start at 3,000 meters (9,800 ft) and some trails include steep inclines. You’ll enjoy it much more if you’re in good physical condition. That said, we always adjust the pace to the group so everyone feels comfortable.
How far do we hike, how much do we climb, and what’s the highest point?
The route varies depending on the group’s chosen difficulty level: it can be a relaxed 3 km (1.9 mi) walk or a more demanding 9 km (5.6 mi) hike (round trip).
The total elevation gain ranges from 300 to 650 meters (984 to 2,132 ft), and the highest altitude reached is between 3,300 and 3,650 meters (10,827 to 11,975 ft) above sea level, depending on the route.
What food is included?
We provide a snack pack with a cereal bar and fresh fruit for the trail. At lunchtime, you’ll enjoy a homemade mountain picnic with cheese, salami, hard-boiled eggs, local bread, fries, tomato, hummus, and more.
Can I request vegetarian or special meals?
Absolutely! Just let us know when you book.
What should I wear?
We recommend long pants, warm layers, a windbreaker, sun hat, sunglasses, and hiking shoes or sneakers. Don’t forget sunscreen, bottled water, and a personal ID (required).
You can download our full gear checklist here.
How many people are in the group?
We keep our hikes very small and personal. Most of the time they’re private, but occasionally you might share the experience with up to two other travelers.
Where do you offer pick-up?
We pick you up in downtown Mendoza or anywhere within a 15 km radius.
If you’re staying farther away, pick-up is available for an extra fee.
And if you’re in Luján de Cuyo, please check with us first — some areas are included and others may require the extra.
Will we cross rivers or streams?
Some trails include small stream crossings — a few have simple bridges, others are shallow enough to cross on foot. If you’d like, you can bring extra shoes to change into after.
What’s the typical temperature like?
That depends on the season. In winter, expect snow and temperatures down to –10 °C (14°F). Even in summer, mornings and evenings can be cold. Warm layers and good footwear are essential year-round.
How do I know which route is best for me?
We’ll help you decide when you book. Just tell us your goals and fitness level. Your guide may also make final suggestions on the day of the hike based on your energy and mountain conditions.
Can the itinerary change?
Yes. Weather, trail conditions, or group needs may lead the guide to adjust the itinerary for safety or comfort. We’ll always keep the experience enjoyable and as close to plan as possible.
What if the weather is bad?
Welcome to the mountains — weather can change quickly. Come prepared for wind, sun, cold, or even snow. What matters most is your mindset: with the right gear and attitude, it’s part of the adventure.
