FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is previous horseback riding experience required?
This ride takes place in the Andes Mountains, over irregular terrain with steep ascents, descents, and stream crossings.
While the horses are calm and well-trained, you don’t need previous experience — but it’s essential that you feel confident around animals and comfortable riding.
Can you accommodate vegetarian menus or dietary restrictions?
Absolutely! Just let us know when you make your reservation.
What should I wear?
Long pants, warm layers, windbreaker, hat, sunglasses, gloves, and sturdy footwear (sport shoes or boots).
We also recommend bringing sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and a personal ID (mandatory).
Download our detailed gear list here.
How strictly is the itinerary followed?
The itinerary is approximate, and times are flexible.
Our horses roam free overnight, so each morning Daniel needs to gather them — this can cause slight delays.
At what altitude does the ride take place?
The ride starts at 2,400 meters (7,875 feet) and can reach up to 3,000 meters (9,840 feet).
What are the typical temperatures?
It depends on the season.
In winter, expect possible snow and temperatures down to -10°C (14°F), requiring good boots and a warm jacket.
In summer, temperatures can still drop near 0°C (32°F) at night, so it’s important to pack layers and warm clothing.
What are the facilities like?
Rancho Don Daniel is an authentic mountain outpost with rustic, simple facilities.
Where do we eat the barbecue?
We enjoy our appetizers, barbecue, and wine outdoors, surrounded by mountains and streams.
Please note that there won’t be extensive infrastructure for lunch — and that’s part of the charm!
Can minors join the ride?
Please consider the length and terrain of the ride.
Minors who cannot ride independently cannot participate, due to the steep sections and long duration.
If the minor can ride alone, it’s important that they feel confident and at ease with the horse and the terrain.
If you’re looking for a more family-friendly option, we recommend our Sunset Ride, a shorter and more accessible experience.
