- Distance: 2.5 km · Elevation gain: +250 m · Max altitude: 2,650 masl · Estimated duration: no hiking
Day 2. From Los Arrieros to Barroso Camp

- Distance: 16 km · Elevation gain: +400 m · Max altitude: 3,200 masl · Estimated duration: 8 h
Day 3. Ascent to the crash site
The most demanding day. We ascend to 3,650 masl through high mountain landscapes. At the crash site memorial, we take time to reflect, pay tribute, and connect with this powerful place. We then return to Barroso Camp.

Day 4. Return to Mendoza

Can I do this expedition on a private date?
Yes. We offer private departures for solo travelers, couples, or small groups. Same route, same logistics — just tailored to your schedule. Contact us for availability.
Do I need mountaineering experience?
No previous high-altitude experience is required, but excellent physical condition is essential. You’ll hike for several hours each day on uneven terrain with significant elevation gain. We recommend combining cardio and strength training (especially legs and core), at least 4 times a week. Working with a personal trainer is ideal.
What’s the weather like?
The Andes can be extreme: in a single day, temperatures can range from -10 °C to 25 °C (14 °F to 77 °F), with intense sun, strong winds up to 70 km/h (43 mph), or even snow. You must bring proper mountain gear to face all possible conditions.
What are the campsites like?
They are 100% wild. There are no showers, electricity, or laundry facilities. Only tents and a shared dining dome. This is a true immersion in nature.
How many people per tent?
Three people per tent. This setup helps streamline daily camp logistics and saves time during setup and takedown.
How many guides will join us?
There will be one professional guide for every 4 or 5 participants. This ratio ensures personal attention and proper group care throughout the expedition.
What does full-board include?
All meals during the 4 days: breakfast, packed lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, and hiking snacks. Some examples: barbecue, pasta with meat sauce, homemade sandwiches, stews, fajitas, fresh fruit, nuts, cereal bars, and oat cookies.
Do you offer vegetarian or special diets?
Absolutely. Just let us know when you book, and we’ll prepare a meal plan that suits your needs.
What if I get tired during the hike?
The itinerary is designed for well-prepared hikers, but in extreme cases, a horse will be available to help you reach the next camp. This animal is shared by the group and should be used responsibly.
Will I have cell service or be able to charge my phone?
No. There is no phone signal, Wi-Fi, or electricity during the trek. We recommend bringing a power bank that can provide at least three full charges and keeping your phone on airplane mode.
How is my personal gear transported?
A mule will carry up to 10 kg (22 lbs) of your gear. We strongly recommend using a reinforced duffle bag designed for mule transport to avoid damage.
Where does the trip end?
The experience ends in Mendoza city around 9 p.m. If your accommodation is within the downtown area, we’ll drop you off at the door. Make sure to book your stay in advance.
How do I book?
We require a partial bank transfer to confirm your reservation. The remaining balance must be paid a few days before the trek. Contact us for booking conditions and cancellation policies.
Should I get a medical check-up?
We strongly recommend a cardiac stress test to ensure you’re fit for sustained physical effort. It’s a smart way to train safely and with peace of mind.
What should I expect from this experience?
This is a remote, high-altitude expedition with demanding days and no modern comforts. You’ll need to protect yourself from strong sun, stay hydrated, hike on rocky terrain, and manage without hot showers or electricity. The required gear is not optional — it’s essential for your safety. Mental readiness is just as important as physical preparation.
Can the itinerary change?
Yes. The planned itinerary is a guideline and may change due to weather or safety concerns. Our professional guides are authorized to make real-time decisions to protect the group and increase the chance of reaching the destination safely.
What happens if I need to abandon the trek?
All abandonment or rescue costs must be covered by the participant. Approximate costs:
-
Vehicle from the Arrieros Camp to Mendoza: up to USD 350
-
Horse evacuation: up to USD 80 per day
These services are provided by independent providers and must be paid in cash. In any case, we’ll support you fully and prioritize your health and safety.
