No previous mountain experience is needed, but good physical condition is essential — especially if you’re used to hiking regularly. The trek lasts around 5 hours (round trip), with uneven terrain and some uphill sections.
The most challenging part comes near the end: you’ll cross a rocky field without a marked trail, climbing over large boulders that demand focus and physical effort to reach the lagoon.

08:00 a.m. – We pick you up from your accommodation in Mendoza city. The journey begins towards Cajón de los Arenales, in the central Andes.
09:30 a.m. – If you’re staying in Uco Valley, we’ll pick you up directly from your accommodation.
11:30 a.m. – Start of the hike. We walk through granite walls and wild valleys, following a crystal-clear mountain stream.
02:15 p.m. – Arrival at the glacial lagoon. Time to rest and enjoy a mountain lunch with a breathtaking view.
03:30 p.m. – Begin the return hike, crossing the final rocky section back through the gorge.
04:30 p.m. – End of the hike. We drive back to your accommodation.
06:30 p.m. – Arrival in Mendoza city or Uco Valley, feeling recharged and fulfilled by the mountains.
Note: Times may vary slightly depending on weather, group pace, or road conditions. We always prioritize enjoying the journey without rushing.
What fitness level is required?
The difficulty is moderate. While the hike doesn’t involve technical skills, we’ll walk several kilometers at altitude and cross some loose rock sections. To enjoy it comfortably, it’s important to be in good physical shape and exercise regularly.
How far will we hike, how much will we ascend, and what’s the maximum altitude?
The hike covers a total of 9 km (5.6 miles) round-trip, with a 450-meter (1,476 feet) elevation gain.
We start the trek at 2,700 meters (8,858 feet) and reach a maximum altitude of 3,150 meters (10,335 feet) at the glacial lagoon where the trail ends.
What food is included?
During the hike, we provide a cereal bar and two pieces of fruit. Once we reach the lagoon, we enjoy a picnic-style lunch with cheese, salami, homemade bread, hard-boiled egg, fried potatoes, tomato, hummus, and more.
Can you provide vegetarian or adapted meals?
Of course! Just let us know when you book the tour.
What clothing and gear should I bring?
We recommend long pants, warm layers, windbreaker, cap, sunglasses, and hiking or trail shoes. Also bring sunscreen, bottled water, and your ID or passport (required).

Where do you pick up travelers?
We offer pick-up in Mendoza city center (within a 15 km radius) and also in the Uco Valley.
If you’re staying further away, we can arrange transportation for an additional fee.
If you’re in Luján de Cuyo, please contact us before adding this option, as some areas are included and others not.
How many people are on the hike?
We keep our groups very small. Most tours are private, but you may share with up to 2 other travelers.
Will we cross any rivers?
Yes. At one point we cross a river with no bridge. It’s easy to cross, but your shoes may get a little wet. You can bring an extra pair of socks or shoes if you’d like.
What’s the typical temperature like?
It depends on the season. In winter, temperatures can drop to –10°C (14°F) with possible snow. In summer, early morning temperatures can still be near 0°C (32°F). Bring warm layers, but also some light clothing for sunny conditions.
Can the itinerary change?
Yes. The guide may adjust the route based on weather, terrain, or group conditions, always prioritizing safety and overall experience
What happens in case of bad weather?
Mountain weather is unpredictable. Come prepared with proper clothing and a good mindset. We’ll be with you the whole way to ensure a safe and enjoyable day.
