OUR RECOMMENDATION
This adventure is perfect for you if you’re looking to disconnect from the city’s rhythm and immerse yourself in pure nature.
If the idea of riding through mountains, breathing high-altitude air, and truly experiencing the Andes from within excites you, then this journey is for you.
It’s important to know that we will be traveling through mountainous terrain: no previous horseback riding experience is required, but you must feel comfortable around horses and not suffer from vertigo.
- Day 1 – Beginning of the journey
We’ll welcome you mid-morning at Rancho Don Daniel, where we’ll prepare the loads together and get ready for the adventure. After getting familiar with the horses and the equipment, we’ll begin our ride toward the high-altitude camp, crossing ravines, streams, and open valleys.
In the afternoon, we’ll arrive at the camp, where a traditional mountain barbecue will be waiting for us.
We’ll spend the night under the impressive starry sky of the Andes, surrounded by the vastness of the Cordón del Plata.
- Day 2 – Sunrise in the mountains and return
We’ll wake up in the heart of the Cordón del Plata and, after breakfast, set out for the highest point of the ride, reaching nearly 4000 meters above sea level.
We’ll enjoy lunch in the middle of the mountains, taking in the breathtaking views, and then begin our ride back to the ranch.
To close the journey in the best way, we’ll be welcomed with delicious homemade empanadas.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is previous horseback riding experience required?
The ride takes place in the Andes Mountains, crossing uneven terrain, steep ascents and descents, and small streams.
While the horses are calm and well-trained, and no previous experience is necessary, it is essential that you feel comfortable around animals and are confident handling them.
Can you accommodate vegetarian or special dietary needs?
Of course! Just let us know when you make your reservation.
What should I wear?
Long pants, a warm jacket, a windbreaker, a hat, sunglasses, gloves, and athletic or hiking shoes or boots.
We also recommend bringing sunscreen, bottled water, and a mate kit if you enjoy it.
(Download the full gear list here.)
How strictly is the itinerary followed?
The itinerary is approximate and the schedule is flexible.
Each morning, the horses must be rounded up from the surrounding hills, which may cause some delays.
At what altitude does the ride take place?
The ride starts at 2,400 meters above sea level and reaches up to 4,000 meters.
What are the typical temperatures?
It depends on the season.
In winter, it’s possible to encounter snow and temperatures as low as -10°C (14°F), so warm footwear and jackets are essential.
In summer, temperatures can still drop close to 0°C (32°F) at night.
Proper warm clothing is always recommended.
What are the facilities like?
Rancho Don Daniel is a traditional mountain outpost with rustic facilities.
Where will we have the barbecue?
We’ll enjoy a traditional Argentine barbecue (“asado”), appetizers, and wine in the middle of the mountains, surrounded by streams and breathtaking views.
Please note: the lunch setup is rustic, with no formal infrastructure.
Can minors participate?
Participation is only allowed for minors who can ride independently.
Due to the length and difficulty of the second day’s ride, it is not possible for minors to ride together with an adult.
If a minor rides alone, it is essential that they are confident and comfortable handling the horse and navigating mountain terrain independently.
Please note that the activity involves long hours on horseback, steep climbs and descents, and demanding mountain conditions that require good physical endurance.
If you are looking for a family-friendly experience, we recommend our day activities, especially the Sunset Horseback Ride, which is perfect for younger riders.
