Cerro Plata is one of the most popular mounts in Mendoza, considered to be the gateway to the “Colossus”.

It is the highest peak of the Cordón del Plata mountain range and, although its altitude is practically 6 thousand meters, it is considered as such because of its difficulty on the day of reaching the summit.

The journey is demanding and in order to reach the summit, one must have experience and be in good physical condition.

It is not to be taken lightly, but we definitely encourage you to experience this unforgettable excursion.

Day 1: Arrival at noon at the Vallecitos refuge area. We will begin a trekking to the high camp “Las Veguitas” at 3250 m.a.s.l., where we will set up camp and spend the night.

Day 2: Breakfast and transfer to camp 2: “Piedra Grande”, at 3650 masl.

Day 3: Breakfast and transfer to camp 3: “El Salto de Agua”, at 4300 masl (if necessary we will stay one more day in the camp “Piedra Grande”).

Day 4: Rest and acclimatization day at El Salto Camp.

Day 5: Breakfast and transfer to camp 4, “La Hoyada”, 4600 masl.

Day 6: Day of rest and acclimatization.

Day 7: Attempt to summit Cerro Plata.

Day 8: Descent to the refuges. Transfer to Mendoza. End of services.

What to Expect from the Full Board?

This includes: breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner for the 3 days walk, except for the first day which starts with the on-the-go lunch. The meals are prepared according to the logistics and activity. Initially, some meals can be:

  • Risotto with bacon
  • Noodles with meat sauce
  • Sandwich with homemade bread, cold cuts, tomato and avocado.
  • Rice with sautéed vegetables
  • Fajitas
  • Fresh fruit, nuts, cereal bars, oatmeal cookies, etc.

What do I do if I lack equipment?

We can recommend you an equipment rental, and we will accompany you in the process of choosing the right one for the activity.

How will we carry the loads?

The idea is to carry loads progressively to high altitude camps and thus take advantage of the process to acclimatize. In case there are 3 participants, a mule will be hired, and in case there are 4, a mule will be hired for descent as well.

What can I do if I do not want to carry my load?

In this case the participants will be able to hire a porter, having to inform us in advance.

How many people will sleep in each tent?

The tents are triple, to facilitate the logistics and the weight to be carried. In case you want a double tent, you must ask for it apart from the service.
